The Right Habits For A Successful Business

I was going to start with ‘well it depends on what success means to you…’ although I think you know me better than that now.

Instead I’m going to tell you about the habits I’ve cultivated in my life that I believe are positively contributing towards the success of my business.

My habits make me feel mentally, physically & emotionally strong (visualise power pose here!). 

My habits are consistent in my life, reminding me of the progress we can make in our life when we’re consistent.

My habits bring me joy, calm & happiness.

We all know a happy human makes for a happy business owner. 

Have you ever tried presenting a talk or a Facebook Live, or promoting a new product or service, when you’re struggling? It’s flippin hard isn’t it?

Healthy habits give us secure foundations to build on. Build confidence & courage, as well as determination & resilience. They also help us to take risks! Yep, we do lots of that as female entrepreneurs.

I call my habits ‘a warm hug at the beginning and end of the day’. How nice does that sound? Wouldn’t you like this every day?

Morning Warm Hug: Yoga/Meditation; Check todays schedule; walk/exercise; read.

Bedtime Warm Hug: Stretches; Journaling; check tomorrow’s schedule; calm wind down.

One thing to mention here which is important is not just the things we do but the things we DON’T do.

Now, this comes with a ‘Honesty Note’!

I don’t (read ‘try really hard not to’!) check my social media first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn…. Are not welcome in my hugs.

The Collins English Dictionary define habits as:

An acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.

And coincidentally this is exactly what I want to share with you in my tips on habits:

  1. Have a routine. Do it everyday, until the good healthy habits become automatic.

  2. Prioritise self care. Looking after your mental health is essential for any business owners. If you’re not giving yours enough attention, rethink your priorities.

  3. Easy one this! Get up early & go to bed early. Might not be for everyone and I’m not talking about joining the 5am Club either!

  4. Fill your mind with positive inspiration every day. It’s all at the touch of a button these days. Find uplifting & motivating TED talks, podcasts, books… join a Clubhouse discussion, attend a networking event, belong to a community of like minded encouraging individuals.

  5. Grit! Build a habit of having endless grit! Be determined, courageous… inject your resilience bucket with a power boost so strong nothing can rock you! Okay… honestly we’ll all get knocked down once in a while. Remember what matters is that you get back up again.
